Why is the oil drainage important?

Water is the second most frequent cause of failures and breakdowns in an oil system after solid impurities. Water molecules act as catalysts on oil aging and accelerate hydrolysis and oil oxidation. This results in a rapid reduction of antioxidants and other additives within a very short time. Thus water molecules cause the formation of insoluble reaction products such as resins, mud or varnish. In addition, water in the oil causes corrosion and rust formation on the surfaces of the machine components.

Another type of wear caused by water in the oil is cavitation. Cavitation occurs when the static pressure in a liquid drops. Such pressure fluctuations, which lead to cavitations, occur, for example, in bearings and gears. During the pressure drop, water vapor bubbles form which collapse and implode when the pressure rises.

If this happens near the surfaces, erosion-like material removal and micro-pitting occur. The imploding water vapor bubble also causes damage to the lubricating oil film, so that metal can hit metal directly and damage the surfaces. As the temperature rises, the risk of cavitation increases exponentially.

Water in the oil also reduces the lubricity of the oil, since hydrogen molecules reduce the oil viscosity and at the same time have a very low load-bearing capacity. In addition, water deteriorates the air separation capacity, increasing the risk of foam formation. This results in impairments of the lubricating effect and inadequate lubrication.

In order to increase your plant availability and sustainably reduce costs, it is therefore important to permanently reduce the water contained in the oil to a minimum.

Which tasks does FS Plus take over for you?

FS Plus takes over the professional and sustainable implementation of this important task for you. By dewatering in the bypass flow, in addition to the main flow filters, we permanently reduce the water content in your oil. With our innovative and efficient vacuum dewatering systems we can dewater and clean a wide range of hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils with a throughput of up to 70 l/min in bypass flow, taking into account the strict quality requirements of ISO 4406.

The system is connected directly to the system and runs semi-automatically. The vacuum evaporation takes place in a vacuum chamber at a maximum temperature of + 60° C. The water is removed from the lubricant and solid particles are collected in filters.

The contained oil additives are not attacked by this process and remain in the desired quality. Your oil is thus permanently kept clean. Benefit from our sound industry know-how and our reliable solutions for oil maintenance. Discover the various possibilities of oil maintenance and drainage with FS Plus.

Remember: In times of global efforts to protect the environment, every liter of oil that can be reused contributes to the common achievement of ecological goals. A maintained oil does not have to be replaced and disposed. It does not need to be remanufactured, packaged, transported and filled. So it does not pollute our environment. And it doesn’t impact your cost balance.
